My name is Jonas Georg Sjögren. I live outside of Uppsala, Sweden, where I run a start-up architectural firm named Vounoa. While not drawing houses I take photographs and compose music. Occasionally I plot down philosophical ideas.
I was born in Stockholm, grew up in Uppsala and began study architecture in Lund, south of Sweden. I completed the studies in Trondheim, Norway, where I stayed and worked for almost 17 years, then returned to Sweden with my family.
Having returned to my native grounds, after being spoiled with the spectacular Norwegian mountains and enjoyed fantastic dramatic vistas, I understood how much I previously have taken the Swedish lowland surroundings for granted. There is so much richness in the this rather restrained but accessible topography. The nature on the ground level is not that dramatic, but more intimate. One doesn’t normally see that far, but one is confined to visual vicinity, given a more intimate context. On the other hand, the often low horizon gives space to a larger view towards the shifting sky, which never repeats itself. The sky makes the main part of the overall landscape scene, thereby sets the stage for the play of clouds. The lighting conditions vary in ways that make reoccurring visits in the familiar sites always a rewarding experience.
In photography I try to stretch my ability to see what I believe is the beauty in everything, specially the hidden gems in everyday surroundings - the things we forgot to see.
